Surprise At The Beach

I live in Florida and pretty much any road you take in my town will lead you to the beach. My husband and I were dating back then and I was expecting the proposal anytime soon.

On Memorial Day we decided to go the beach. Everything was on a whim so I expected nothing. What He did is he stuck a note inside a bottle that he secretly released into the sea. He then pretended that he had spotted the bottle. He said “look there’s a bottle, let’s go get it.”

We joyously went into the water and retrieved the bottle. I was awaiting a mystery – I was a very gullible person back then. So, waist deep in water I popped the cork open and took out the note. I accidentally dropped it into the water and when I went to retrieve it he took me by the arm. He said “you don’t have to get it, because everything that’s on that note I can say to you.”

That’s when I realized it was a proposal. He couldn’t bend down so he took me into his arms and asked me if I were willing to become his wife. I instantly accepted then a big wave engulfed us as we were swept onto shore, I found my family waving at me.

He then went to the cooler and took out one of the sandwiches. He said “I didn’t know which way to ask so I had a back up proposal.” As I was laughing he took my hand and put the mayonnaise covered ring on my finger. And that is how we got engaged.

Valentine Chocolates

My husband proposed to me on Valentine’s Day. He started off by calling my dad at work to ask his permission. My dad responded by asking him if he was sure that I wanted to marry him. (I think my dad meant to ask if I knew that he was planning on proposing.) So my husband was not feeling the greatest, but he decided to go ahead and ask me, all the same.

Then my husband bought a huge heart shaped box of Lindt Chocolates and put the engagement ring box in it. He came over to my house and handed me the box of chocolates. I hate to say it, but I love Lindt Chocolates and so I started stuffing my mouth full of those chocolate truffles as we were taking the elevator up to my apartment. I didn’t even realize that there was an engagement ring box there.

I think he was a bit disappointed that I didn’t say anything (I was pigging out). I finally realized as we were leaving the elevator that there was a velvet ring box in the Lindt Chocolate box. I opened it up, realized what was going on, but I had at least three truffles in my mouth so I couldn’t say anything.

But in my defense, my husband never went down on one knee or officially asked me to marry him. I am not sure that it was the way that he had planned on us getting engaged, but we have been married for two and one half years now, so I suppose it all worked out.
