An Unusual Dinner

I was proposed to at a place in Dallas, Texas called the Magic Time Machine. It was a great place to have dinner and the unique thing about it was that all the waiters and waitresses had to dress up as a character like spider man, a muppet, etc. The place was decorated in a crazy way.

I had no idea what would happen that evening. As far as I was concerned, we were just going out for dinner. I was glad to know that we would be going somewhere special.

Dinner was pretty calm, except the waiter was Alf from the weird TV series about an alien (a puppet) who came to earth and lived with a family, usually wreaking havoc. I thought the waiter was a little obnoxious at times.

We ordered desert and when the waiter brought it to the table, I saw a ring stuck in the whipped cream. The waiter stood there waiting for something to happen. After several seconds had passed, he turned to my husband and asked him if he wasn’t going to propose to me or go down on his knee or something.

My husband looked at me and asked me to marry him and I said yes. I think he was a bit in shock or something, because he acted like he didn’t know what to do. I fished the ring out of the whipped cream and he put it on my finger. I had never heard of someone proposing this way. I thought it was very unusual.

A Grand Canyon Road Trip

We were taking a road trip from Chicago to San Diego where we spent each night in a different town. My fiance arranged to have the ring shipped to the town where we would be spending the night in Colorado. The next day he pretended to need gas in the car and left me in the hotel room while he went and picked up the ring.

He then decided that we needed to make it to the grand canyon before sunset on that day. We drove quickly and without stopping in order to make it there before sunset. Once there, we stopped to look at the big hole in the ground. Neither of us had been there before. He looked around for about 5 seconds and said “hmm, this is nice, let’s go!”.

I was confused but followed him away from the hole and rest of the tourist to a remote area behind some bushes and very close to the edge of the canyon. He then pretended to kneel down to look at some “weird ants” on the ground. By the time I caught up with him, he had pulled out the box out of his pocket and opened it and said “sweetie, will you marry me”.

I was in real shock. I accepted and we both started crying. It had been a long day, and it was getting more difficult for him to keep the box in his pocket without me knowing about it. We’ve been married 2 years now and every time we fly over the Canyon, I think of that day.
