A Proposal to Toast To

Justin’s proposal was not only well planned, but my sister didn’t expect a thing until he put the ring on her finger. Justin picked one of the nicest restaurants in town to propose in. They had gone to this restaurants before, but this time he had a lot of things up his sleeve.

Upon arriving, he disappeared for a few minutes to give the ring to their waitress so that she could deliver it when the time came. He then went back to the table where he carried on just like it was any other night. After dinner was cleared away, he insisted on desert and a glass of champagne. This peeked my sister’s radar and she began to grow a little suspicious but she did not want to hurt his feelings even though she knew that he was aware that she wasn’t a champagne kind of girl.

Upon the champagne arriving, my sister picked up the glass and prepared to drink it like it was a shot so she didn’t have to taste it. When Justin implored her to set down the glass, she said no it’s fine I’ll drink it. When he realized that she wasn’t going to look at what was at the bottom of her glass, he pointed to the ring that had settled on the bottom. Reaching in, he took it out, dried it off and asked her the big question.

This story has a happy ending or I wouldn’t be calling him my brother-in-law. It also ended in tears one because she felt bad for ruining the surprise and secondly because she was very happy. Now they are three kids happy and we are quite sure that they are going to live happily ever after.

Covert Operation Engagement

My boyfriend had been in Iraq for over seven months serving in the Marine Corps. We had talked about getting married at some point after he returned but never got into a lot of details about it.

When he returned in the summer of 2004, I decided to go meet him in California where he was stationed. Before I left from our hometown in Idaho, my boyfriend’s mother asked me to come over so she could give me some important papers. She said that I had to guard the papers with my life because they had to do with his military orders.

As I flew to California, I carried the envelope of papers next to me at all times, always checking every few minutes to make sure I still had them. After a joyful and tearful reunion, I gave him the envelope and he was very glad that I took such good care of it. He explained that the papers told him where he would be going next.

After several days of spending time together, we went out to a beautiful dinner on a pier. My boyfriend kept saying how nervous he was all during dinner and I just couldn’t figure out why. After dinner we took a walk on the pier. Before I realized it, he got down on his knee and proposed.

I was so shocked and asked him where and when he got the ring. He said that I had been carrying it with me the whole time, his mother had bought it for him while he was in Iraq and figured the only way he could propose to me in California was if I brought it down myself. We were married two months later and will celebrate our three year anniversary this summer.
