Get Sentimental
This is my true engagement story.
Through getting to know my wife as we dated, it became apparent to me that she had fond memories of her grandfather, who had died when she was 4 or 5 years old.
She would often talk about small things she remembered about him from that young age. One of her favorite memories was climbing to the top of a hill near her house with him and looking out over the small town she lived in. Somehow that experience really stuck in her young mind at the time and she remembers it vividly.
Well, when the time came for me to decide how to ask her to marry me I naturally started thinking of places and ideas that were very sentimental to her. I decided to use that memory she had of that hill when she was little.
So I got the ring and a couple of weeks later told her it would be a fun to go hike up that hill. We hiked up to the top – chatting, laughing, and flirting like young lovers do and had a great time. Once we got to the peak we looked out over that small town and it was queit for a few seconds as we stood looking.
That’s when I pulled out the ring box, got down on my knee, and popped the question. I was so nervous! She cried a little bit and laughed and thankfully said ‘yes’. It was a great day and very memorable experience.
I suggest, from personal experience, to find a way to ask a woman to marry you by using a pleasant sentimental memory from her past as a background to the experience.
