A Timeless Christmas Marriage Proposal
I had the idea that I would propose to my future wife on Christmas Eve. I also knew that she did not like huge, gaudy rings. This gave me my idea.
First, I went to a jewelry store and purchased a unique heart-shaped diamond (about 1/4 karat). After I received the ring, I got a HUGE box, put the ring in the bottom and filled it with newspaper. I then gift-wrapped the box and placed it under our Christmas tree.
My next step was to approach a co-worker and ask for a favor. I asked her if I could borrow a huge cubic zirconium ring that she had. She said “yes” and my plan was set.
On Christmas Eve, my fiancée and I went to the Christmas Eve midnight service. All through the service I was worried that my plan might not work, or that she would say no. After all, I had never done anything like this before.
After the service, we walked-out to the parking lot and said goodbye to our friends. As I was opening the car door for her, I got down on one knee, presented her with the huge cubic zirconium ring and apologized that this ring was the only thing that I could afford at the time and asked her to marry me.
She said “YES!”
The next day, Christmas Day, while we were opening our presents, I gave her a HUGE box. As she opened it and removed reams of tissue and filler paper, she ended-up with just a tiny box. Opening it, she saw the ring I had purchased for her earlier — the 1/4 karat heart-shaped diamond.
