A Great Suprise…

After dinner, she can pick up her fortune cookie and instead of a fortune, she will find the ring!

I sing in a barbershop quartet. My girlfriend and I attended a district-level competition. While at the contest, I proposed to her in private in my hotel room. Upon her accepting, I told a few select friends who were in other quartets.
After the contest festivities, the chorus I was in hosted a hospitality room where different quartets wandered in to sing a few songs before moving on to the next room. I had asked my friends to sing some special songs when they came. Two separate quartets (one awesome group, and a comedy group) came in and made the announcement of our engagement. They each dedicated a song directly to my girlfriend and sang to her.
The first song was “One Moment in Time” about that moment that comes once in a lifetime where you’re more than you ever thought you could be and the culmination of your life’s dreams are only a heartbeat away. The song is performed by Whitney Houston (although much better in barbershop) and the lyrics can be found on the internet.
The second song was a humorous number that asks the question, “Can you tame wild women?” Needless to say, she melted right there in front of everyone present and it became (even more so) a night she would never forget.
I have known other men that incorporate a quartet or their own group into part of the proposal. Given a good quality group, and the right choice of song(s), you will both be blown away. Most groups also typically sing in full tuxes for such events. You can look up local groups and chapters through barbershop.org. Good luck with your proposal.
