A Surprise Marriage…
I had been with my boyfriend for 7 years at that point. We,re both adventure seekers, and have families that like to interfere with our business we’re also very busy, and don’t have a ton of time to plan huge events, not that we really wanted a big expensive wedding.
One night, I was awakened by my boyfriend who handed me a sweater and asked me to get into the car. I did, and we drove to the airport where we boarded a plane to Hawaii. He had packed my bags in advance with my favorite shorts and bikini, and even remembered both dress and hiking shoes.
We sat in first class, and after the plane reached altitude, he got down on one knee and proposed in front of the entire plane! We got married 3 days later in Hawaii. He had contacted my work, and told them he was taking me on a surprise 2 week vacation, so they weren’t worried, and my best friend apparently knew.
It was great not to have the stress of the families, the clothes, the cake, the decorations, and all of the rest. It was just the two of us and the minister on the beach. We ended the ceremony by blowing a Conch Shell.
The hotel provided the suite and a honeymooners package complete with champagne and massages. We spent the next week and a half hiking the trails and seeing the sites. We swam with dolphins, watched sunsets and hiked about 50 miles.
It was fantastic!
