Boat Ride Proposal

One of my best engagement ideas has to be one that deals with a boat ride…you can either rent a boat or go on a boat cruise that docks on a beach shore.

Take your loved one with you on a romantic boat ride: roses and scented candles everywhere to make her feel special and prepare a nice dinner for the two of you (if the boat ride does not offer dinner)…say filet minion steak (you can get from any deli and prepare it yourself.)

While you and your loved one are on the boat, have some friends or relatives go to the beach shore and in the sand write out Her Name and Will you Marry Me. Make sure its big so on the way back to the shore you both look over to the beach while being under the stars and there it is…as she looks back at you, you’re already on one knee with your ring out waiting.

The Dance

I was divorced when I was 33 and immediately knew I didn’t want to stay that way very long, so I started attending Parents Without Partners dances. They had these dances in a different city each month and it was at one close to my home that I spotted my future wife…time was short, so I only had a chance to dance with her a few times before it ended and we both thought that would be it.

The following month the dance was close to where she lived which was only a couple of hours, but I drove down with a friend so we wouldn’t make the trip in vain …we got there early so we wouldn’t make the trip in vain. While waiting, I sat on the steps that entered the ballroom and who should walk up alone but my future wife. Of course the first thing she asked was, “What are you doing here?” to which I replied, “Waiting for you!” If you saw the Tom Hanks movie when he got stuck in the Airport, that line was used in a very dramatic scene.

From that night on it was a whirlwind courtship with my car memorizing the road between our houses, so I could get home at night. That was a bummer, so three weeks later we were married and it has lasted through 35 years and counting. I know some would say that’s way to short, but we were both divorced and knew what we were looking for, so I don’t think it was all luck.
