A Christmas Morning Marriage Proposal

My husband proposed to me on Christmas morning after all of the other gifts had been opened. I think he gave me a blender, some games, and maybe some socks. All the while, I’m disappointed that the boxes were way too big to be what I really wanted.

He made me wait for it. We had been dating for about 3 years, and we had talked about getting married, but he had never proposed. And the funny part was he didn’t buy the ring until about 3 days before Christmas, and from a major internet retailer no less, so it had to be shipped.

I had suggested we stay at his father’s house on the 23rd, but he inexplicably wouldn’t do it. Well, the ring he had ordered was set to be delivered to his mother’s house on Dec 24 and he didn’t want anyone else to know (including her), so we had to be there in case the delivery came early in the morning.

But he got it, and on Christmas morning, we were at his mother’s house, and after ALL the other gifts were opened – and there are always lots there – he handed his mother his digital camera. She started freaking out and I honestly didn’t understand why, until he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

He has so much family in the same town and we visit all of them at Christmas. We spent the whole day running the gauntlet of family members who were very excited to hear about our engagement. It was a very special Christmas morning.
