A Model Proposal…

When my husband proposed to me, I was spending the weekend at his house. I was ready to go home, but he asked me to stay around just a while longer.

I sat upstairs and read a book while he was downstairs with his model train. He called me down to ask me if I could help him with something. I walked downstairs and heard our song by Head East. “Save my life. I’m goin’ down for the last time.” I walked inside the room with his train layout, and a train began to move around the track. In each of the gondola cars with notecards with the first saying “Will” and the next “you” and the next “marry” and the next “me.” In the next car was a small n-gauge engine called The Rock, and in the next car was a rose with my diamond ring. Come to find out, he also had a hidden video camera so he was recording the whole thing for me. I was appropriately shocked as this was totally out of the blue. I said yes, of course, and as they say, the rest is history.

Eleven years and one daughter later we are still together. Although not always happily, I would say that overall, I made the right choice. The proposal may sound corny to some people, but he is a model train “freak” as I call him, and he proposed in a very creative way that was unique to him and his interests. I enjoyed it, and it took a lot of work to set it all up.
