Even More Than Just a Walk on the Beach

There is no more romantic time than sunset. A surprise picnic on the beach at a sunset will definitely set the mood (especially if there is a bit breeze in the air and it is not hot and humid outside). There is something about strolling hand in hand by the water on an empty beach (or a secluded spot) and watching the sun hit the water with that special someone that makes the moment so magical, relaxed and intimate.

It creates a special atmosphere of together-ness that is hard to achieve in a restaurant or a busy hotspot in a city. Good food, perhaps a bottle of a really nice wine, her favorite flowers (if you usually give her flowers), a small box of really good chocolates will be either a great intro to the proposal or a nice finale.

Instead of the beach (should you not be too keen on the sand), you can propose while sailing. Just make sure that the sea is not too rough. A walk on the beach or sailing, of course, are a perfect setting for a surprise proposal.

More extravagant ideas that might give away your intentions are a sunset balloon ride or a surprise trip to Paris (or Venice). A friend of mine did surprise his then girlfriend with a trip to Paris and then proposed on top of the Eiffel Tower. They have spent the following few days enjoying themselves and Paris.

Whatever you choose, make sure it is something that both of you enjoy – walk on a beach, sailing, or traveling.
