It’s Their Own Gazebo

A friend of mine proposed to his girlfriend about two years ago after years of dating. They had been dating so many years and seen so many friends date, get engaged, and get married (some after dating less time then they had been together), that my friend’s girlfriend was wondering if he would ever propose to her.

They met in college about five years ago, and had their first date at a park on campus. The park has a lake and a winding path around lots of flowers and other plants and is beautiful. The day he was going to propose, he suggested they take a walk in that park, and go to the gazebo they sat in on their first date. They referred to this gazebo as “their gazebo.”

As they approached, his girlfriend could see that there were a dozen roses waiting on the bench. As much as this surprised her, she was even more surprised when they reached the gazebo. My friend got down on one knee and pulled a ring out of his pocket. He told her that this gazebo was the first place he told her he loved her, and he wanted to spend the rest of his life telling her he loves her.

She cried, he cried, and she said yes. After lots of planning, they were married last year in a big ceremony in front of all their friends and family, and I imagine that gazebo still holds a special place in their hearts.
