Movie Date Engagement
My boyfriend and I had been dating for about a year and we had talked about getting married but only in a theoretical way–we had talked about rings, too, but only like it was something way in the future, so his proposal caught me by surprise.
One weekend we went out to see a romantic movie…of course, we also ordered popcorn. While I was in the ladies room, he must have buried the ring-box in the popcorn, because about thirty minutes into the movie we were sharing the popcorn and my fingers brushed against this velvet box in the popcorn. I said “What in the world is this?”…at first I was wondering if it was a mistake, like the employees had dropped something into the popcorn by accident, but when I saw his face I realized that something was up.
I pulled it out and saw that it was a little ring-sized jewelry box, but I didn’t want to leap to conclusions…when I saw that there were tears in his eyes, I realized that this was THE jewelry box! I opened it up and the diamond sparkled in the low lights from the movie screen–he just looked at me, waiting to see what I would do. Of course I nodded yes, and put on the ring right there in the movie theatre…then we kissed, and I leaned over and held him tight.
In a few minutes we were both crying, and had to leave the movie early. I didn’t care, though–I already had my happy ending.
