Proposing At The Zoo
Last year I took my family to the San Diego Zoo. During our visit we went to one of the animal shows. It was a beautiful summer day and the theater was full of families.
At a certain point in the show, the animal trainer asked for volunteers and chose a woman from the audience. The volunteer was asked to hold out her arm with a dollar bill in her hand and a bird of prey would swoop down out of nowhere to land on her arm as a demonstration of eyesight, speed and agility.
The woman got up on stage and put her arm out as instructed. The bird swooped down, and while no one was looking, a young man in fatigues crept up to the stage. When the bird landed, the animal trainer removed a little red box from the bird’s beak and gave it to the man who by that time was down on one knee.
He was just home from a long tour in Iraq and was finally asking the woman to marry him. She said yes and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house, including the sobbing animal trainers.
