Proposing Under Her Very First Christmas Tree

This was my simple, but romantic way of getting engaged during Christmas time.

My girlfriend and I had been going out for about a year and a half. She had previously told me early in December that although she and her family celebrated Christmas, she never had a Christmas tree and always wanted one. So, one day, when she was working at the hospital (as a nurse), I bought myself a Christmas tree, decorated the entire tree, and then proceeded to decorate the whole entire room at my condo with about 50 or more candles.

I placed stuffed animals under the tree and then hid the engagement ring in a box under the stuffed animals. I knew she always ate dinner at work, so I went to a local Swedish bakery and got very cute looking Christmas desserts. I put red rose petals all over the place, chose some romantic music to play on my speakers, dimmed the lights, and lit all of the candles.

I invited her over and looked out my 16th floor window, sitting and waiting for an hour until I saw her car pull into my building. I waited, and hid with a bouquet of roses with soft music playing in the background. As she opened the door and walked in, I heard her gasp with surprise and happiness at the glow of the tree. I then walked out, gave her the roses and asked her to slow dance.

While we were dancing, I asked her if she liked the tree. She replied, “Yes, it’s beautiful!” I then replied, “Well, I’m glad you like the tree. I love you very much Jennie, I know you always wanted a Christmas tree, so I want our FIRST gift under our FIRST tree together to be this…”

And then I proceeded to kneel down, grabbed the hidden ring box, and proposed to my girlfriend. Through her joyful tears, she happily said, “Yes!!!” And now, we’re on our way to a happy and love-filled life together!
