Secret Santa Proposal
I’ve known my wife’s family since high school, as I’ve been friends with her brother since then. Just before his wedding, he said, “You and my sister should get together.” Long story short, we did get together and really connected.
On the first date, I just knew that I would marry her. I lived in Virginia, and she in Rhode Island. About 8 months after we met, I moved to Rhode Island too. I picked out a ring, and tried to decide on how to propose.
Her family (which is rather large), does a “Secret Santa” every year for Christmas. Since her family figured that I’d be around for this, I got to choose a name out of the hat, and by wonderful chance, I picked Her. I decided then and there that I’d put the ring in the bottom of her stocking. However, I wanted to “throw her off the scent, so I got someone else to fill her stocking with other gifts (I didn’t want her to know it was I who filled her stocking by the kind of gifts that I gave her).
So there we are, Christmas morning in front of her whole family and she opens all the gifts in her stocking and gets down to the last one wrapped in different paper. She opens it and goes completely speechless. It took a good 30 seconds before others in the room realized what was going on. Best Christmas ever!
